Rivers in Florida

Rivers in Florida

Florida offers beautiful lazy rivers to enjoy paddling. Because of our diverse Eco-systems, the rivers may differ in landscape, but are all very scenic. Chances are, no matter where your Florida destination may be, there is a river with-in an hour or two. Here is a listing and brief description of the rivers we visit most. Anything from 2 hour rentals, to overnight adventures are available.

Oleta
Located directly in Miami, this river offers peaceful salt-water trails through the mangroves, to canoe or kayak. Rentals are best offered by Urban Trails Kayak Co. at Haulover on Miami Beach. This is perfect to combine with a city tour, or for a corporate group outing. It is not unlikely to spot dolphin or manatee!

Florida Bay
The Florida Bay Outfitter is located in Key Largo. They offer many half or full day adventures through the saltwater backcountry of the upper Keys and Biscayne National Park. These pristine waters are special, being home to America's only living coral reef and the endangered crocodile.

Loxahatchee
Located in Jupiter, this river offers windy trails through Cypress heads. This river is recommended to intermediate paddlers. As with all the fresh water rivers, it is teaming with wildlife and birds such as the otter, raccoons, deer, alligators, and herons.

Estero
Located between Naples and Ft.Myers, this is a brackish water river, beginning in a woodsy area of the Mayaka State Park, later opening up to the Florida Bay. This is home to Mound Key, a shell mound island settled by the Calusa Indians.

Peace
Travel downstream through some of Florida's most uninhabited canoe trails. This wildlife sanctuary is famous for it's fossils. Sifters are available with your canoe rental. Look for things, such as sharks teeth, manatee ribs, and other ancient mammal bones! This river is located in Arcadia.

Santa Fe/ Ichetucknee
This river is located in High Springs near Gainesville. This is one of Florida's most scenic rivers with giant Cypress and Live Oak tress. Many types of water birds and turtles decorate this gorgeous river. Downstream canoeing is offered with pick ups at different points.

Hillsborough
Tampa's beautiful river located 15 minutes from Busch Gardens. This scenic river offers downhill canoeing and is loaded with alligators!
